The Confederate 1st Kentucky brigade was organized in the summer of 1861, shortly before their state voted to remain loyal to the Union. Covering itself with honors at Shiloh, Corinth, Stones River and Chickamauga, the brigade was one of the last units in the east to surrender in Georgia, in May of 1865.
